Floatation FAQs

Floatation Therapy FAQs

Can I drown if I fall asleep?

It is safe to fall asleep in the tank. Some people fall asleep, but the solution is so buoyant you they stay afloat. It is very difficult to roll over in the tank because of the density of the solution, always float with you head to the door of the pod

What do I need to do to prepare for this experience?

Most importantly, Relax! The tank will help but if you arrive relaxed, the experience will be more beneficial for you. Remove your contact lens prior to floating (bring a container to store them in). Use the bathroom before your session. Don’t drink coffee for several hours beforehand (it can make your system jittery). Also, don’t shave or wax since the salt water can irritate your skin. Do not wear any hair or skin products. Other than that, there’s no specific preparation needed.

Do I have to stay the whole time?

There aren’t any latches on the tank doors, so you are free to get out anytime. That said, the 60-minutes usually goes by way faster than you’d expect.

Do I get dehydrated from soaking for so long?

No – your skin doesn’t even get wrinkly, it actually becomes silky soft and smooth afterwards. You do absorb a lot of magnesium from the Epsom salt which has lots of benefits.

Do I need to bring anything?

Nope, just yourself. Our goal is that you can turn up and leave with just yourself. Towels, earplugs, make-up wipes, body wash and deodorants and everything else you need are provided.

What effects does floating in a flotation tank have on the mind?

During a float, you produce slower brain-waves patterns, known as theta waves, which are normally only experienced during a deep meditation or just before falling asleep. This is usually accompanied by vivid imagery, very clear, creative thoughts, sudden insights and inspirations or feelings of profound peace and joy. Because of these effects, floating is used effectively in the treatment of depression and addictions, not to mention excellent for muscle recovery and aids with chronic pain management.

Could you get electrocuted?

I am a bigger guy/gal, can I still float in your tanks?

Our floatation cabin is the biggest in europe. Yes unless you’re over 7 feet tall or over 500 pounds, you’re good to go.

Will I be able to resume my daily activities when I get out?

Yes! And it may be good to arrange your time so you don’t have to rush. Although many people enjoy enjoying the peace and quiet before jumping into something hectic.

What if I am taking medication or drugs that make me drowsy or may affect my consciousness.

If you are on any medications that may affect your consciousness or render you drowsy you must not use our facilities, also taking any illicit substances is extremely dangerous and we will contact the gardai if suspected and you will be refused entry with no refund.

I’m pregnant. Can I float?

Absolutely! There will be a womb within a womb! Floating can relieve a lot of the aches and pains caused by pregnancy. It is not permitted to float within the first trimester and if you have any concerns please consult with your physician before coming in.

Can I float if I have my period?

Yes. Just follow the same protocol as you would for a swimming pool or hot tub.

How often should I float?

The more regularly you float the better. Just like any activity, the more you practice the better you become, and the more cumulative effects you will see. It really depends on the individual.

What do I wear in the float room?

We recommend that you don’t wear anything so that you can feel truly free and so you are not distracted by your clothing. However we completely understand this can be daunting the first time, so you can wear a costume if you like.

How will I know when my time is finished?

At the beginning of your session there is 5 minutes of music to allow you to relax and then a golden silence for 50 mins. In the last five minutes the music will fade back in to ease you back out of your float.

What effect does salt water have on my skin and hair?

The Epsom salt solution is beneficial to the skin and hair. People leave the tank with softer-feeling skin. It is advisable to not use any hair coloring or dyeing products prior to float, schedule your session typically one or two weeks after your hair coloring.

How is the water cleaned between sessions?

We have a filtration system that runs after each session. The water is filtered through a 1 micron pool filter (that’s 1/100th the diameter of a human hair!) . There is more than 16000 pounds of medical grade Epsom salt dissolved in the tank – a concentration so high no living microorganism can survive We use very light doses of H2o2 to maintain cleanliness, Our cleaning systems are 15 times more efficient than a swimming pool. There is no cleaner environment possible. A shower is mandatory before floating.

What happens if I get salt water in my eyes?

It’s going to sting a little. But no worries, you can just spray a little water from your bottle provided and get back to your session. How Does Floating Work?

What Do I Need To Do?

There is no effort involved in floating. Everything happens automatically as part of a natural organic process. Simply enter our carefully curated environment. Relax and let the water support you.

The unique buoyancy provided by a just 30cm of healing Epsom salt solution, and the temperature of the solution and air matching your body’s temperature, creates a powerful impression of levitation where you no longer feel the force of gravity. By reducing all sensory experiences: sight, smell, touch and sound, your body drifts in a state of complete sensory isolation, free from external stimuli, where images, sounds, and touch naturally fade away.

What Happens?

Free from sensory input, the muscular-skeletal system and sympathetic nervous system wind down into a state of deeply relaxing state of serenity.

Your brain easily drifts away into the half-asleep/half-awake type Theta state which is associated with heightened creativity, problem-solving, and visualization.

Research has shown that Theta brain waves are present during periods of deep meditation. Unlike typical experiences of Theta brain waves, which are fairly short-lived as we transition between being awake and asleep, floating offers much more extended periods in the Theta state.

What Happens Afterwards?

Without the need to fight gravity or take-in external information, it will probably  be the most relaxing experience you’ve ever had!

We recommend you sit and relax on our sofa for at least ten minutes after your post float shower. We offer water or a herbal tea.

Floating increases your feel-good, happy hormone dopamine, increases endorphin levels and reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol. This boosts your mood, leaving you with a pleasant afterglow that lasts long afterwards, while your mind and body restore and rejuvenate.

We pride ourselves on ensuring the highest degree of hygiene is maintained. Customers are required to shower before (and after) their float.

The sterile 25% salt water solution ensures that nothing harmful can survive within the float room. Pathogenic microorganisms cannot survive in concentrations higher than 10% salt. The water is filtered through a 1-micron filter (that’s 1/100th the diameter of a human hair!) at least 4 times between each use. By comparison, standard pool and spa filters filter to just 20-30 microns.
